Examples of Exponent Rules
In math we write symbolic math statements to describe procedures. So to the right of example 1
is the mathematical generalization statement describing the work done in example one.
I would like you to do the same for the other examples and also write in words an explanation
of the work done in each problem.
- a4 x a3 = a4 + 3 = a7 generalized math description → au x av = au + v answer
- (a5)3 = (a5)(a5)(a5) = (a5 + 5 + 5) = a15 or
(a5)3 = (a5 x 3) = a15 answer
- (a3b2)4 = a3x4b2x4 = a12b8 answer
- What does (atbyf rpm)u = answer
- x5/x3 = x5 - 3 = x2 answer
- (x5/t3)4 = x5 x 4/t3 x 4 = x20/t12 answer
- What does (at/byf r)u = answer
- x0 = 1 x ≠ 0
- a-2 = 1/a2 a ≠ 0
