SUBTRACTION

Subtraction is often considered the reverse of addition.

Addition      23 + 4 = 27   Subtraction 27 - 4 = 23

Like addition it is important to place the numbers in the proper place
value column.  For instance lets say someone borrows  $2,417 from you.
Then he pay you back $24. He subtract in the following manner:

      $2,417
    - $24
       $0017  He says he owes you only $17.  Would he be correct?   Why?
