PERCENTAGES    return

Percent means 100.  That is important because when you want to convert from percents to ratio fractions you just drop the percent sign and place the number over 100. For example:

            100 % as a ratio fraction = 100/100 =  1

             47 % as a ratio fraction =  47/100

Try these      87 % =

                    37 % =

                    365 % =     answer

There are also problems such as     47 1/2 %   The procedure does not change.

47 1/2     However the numerator 47 1/2 can be divided by the denominator 100.

100         47 1/2  ÷  100   changes to   95/2  ÷   100/1.  We invert the divisor and

proceed as in multiplication.   95/2   x   1/100   multiply the numerators

and then multiply the denominators.   So our answer is 95/200 which reduces

19/40   when both numerator and denominator are divided by 5

Try these examples:   1) 23 1/3%

                                     2) 13 7/8 %      answer
