# Even Odd Functions

A parabola y = x^{2} is an even function. That means if x = 2 or x = -2 y = 4

y = (-2)^{2} = (-2)(-2) = 4 and y = 2^{2} = (2)(2) = 4

To the left is the graph of a parabola. Notice that if x = 2 or -2 the graph is exactly

4 units above the x axis
and the coordinates of that point are (2, 4) or (-2, 4)

Graphically that means if you rotate the parabola's graph around the y axis

the appearance of the graph will not change.
