Inverse Functions
To form an inverse the domain of the below sin function is limited to -1.571 radians(-π/2) to 1.571 radian (π/2).
Remember that the domain of the original function becomes the range of the inverse and
the range of the original function becomes the domain of the inverse.
The below graph is of the sine functions' inverse.
The inverse function is written arcsin(x) = y or sin-1x = y Either notation is acceptable.
The domain is -1 to 1 The range is -π/2 to π/2
or (-1.571 to 1.571)
Notice that the range and domain of the inverse are reversed on the original sine function.
The inverse is an odd function and symmetrical to the origin.
The cos function below is not one to one it fails the horizontal line test.
Based on your knowledge of inverses and by studying the above information on the sine function and its inverse
determine what the cosine's inverse is and graph it. (Try to draw the graph before checking the answer.)
