# Logarithms

## Prior to calculators logarithms (logs) were used to multiply and divide large numbers. JohnNapier, a Scottish nobleman, invented them in 1614.

There are still uses for them today including the measuring of earthquakes, pH of a solution and decibels of sound.

Lets look at some logarithms:

log_{5} 125 = 3 can be converted to an exponential form 5^{3} = 125
