Logarithms

Prior to calculators logarithms (logs) were used to multiply and divide large numbers. JohnNapier, a Scottish nobleman, invented them in 1614.
There are still uses for them today including the measuring of earthquakes, pH of a solution and decibels of sound.

Lets look at some logarithms:

   log5 125  =  3 can be converted to an exponential form    53 = 125
