Lets graph (-2,3). The negative 2 is the x value and called the x coordinate. The 3 is the y value and called the y coordinate. Together they are called an ordered pair. To locate (-2,3) on the graph we count over 2 places to the left of zero on the x axis and then vertically upward 3 places. We use the numbers on the y axis to measure the distance upward. We use the same procedure to graph (-5,-4) only we count vertically down 4 places to locate the -4.
