The slope of 3y = 6x + 9  is calculated by dividing both sides of the equation by 3.  The results is  y = 2x + 3 and the slope of the equation is 2.

The slope of  y = 4x + 7 is 4 since the y coefficient is 1.

SLOPE IS A VERY IMPORTANT MATHEMATICAL CONCEPT.

In general math the slope represents the average rate of change of a function.
In calculus we will look for the instantaneous rate of change.

For example if you travel 600 km in 10 hours we might conclude that your average rate
of change (speed)was 6o km per hour.
In calculus we might want the actual speed (instantaneous rate of change) at 2.78 km.
